A message from our president...
As I sit down to write this letter, I glance over and see three precious little six-week old kittens. Their former owner surrendered them to Little Orphan Animals because, as a single mother, she did not have the funds to spay her cat which, of course, resulted in the birth of these babies. By the time you read this, the kittens should be in new, loving homes and the mother cat spayed and ready for adoption. Unfortunately, this is only one of the said stories that we are hearing. The current recession is the worst we have experienced in decades. The deprivations that many families are feeling are also affecting their pets. We have received a sharp increase in requests from people seeking to surrender their pets to LOA who can no longer afford to keep them or are moving and cannot bring them with them. These are the responsible owners, other will simply abandon their animals, we hear about many of those also from concerned citizens. Our volunteers are doing all they can to help with these situations, but without a shelter we are forced to turn away many requests. The decline in the real estate market may finally provide us with the opportunity to purchase a suitable site in the Peekskill area for a shelter with the help of our friends. Please consider making a donation today, your help has never been more important.
